About Us
Located 12
miles east of Halfway, Oregon, Spirit Ranch lies just inside the Hells Canyon
National Recreation Area, about four mountainous miles from the Idaho border.
Our first and foremost
breeding goal is a noble disposition, this being the foundation of all
relationships with the horse. We strive for excellent conformation, with an
aptitude for classical dressage and Doma Vaquera, which translates to cattle
working in Spain and is equivalent to the western reining event of horsemanship
in the USA.
Our healthy,
happy horses are mountain-raised in a natural environment, running barefoot and
free on over 300 acres of varied terrain year-round, crossing creeks and
negotiating other natural barriers as a matter of daily life. They develop
strong bones, lungs, hearts, and feet, in addition to a relaxed and confident
attitude.
They
learn to eat a wide array of grasses, forbes, herbs, and fruit, thereby
consuming the minerals and vitamins they need, when they need them. They are
accustomed to sharing their range with a variety of animals, both wild and
domestic. We have deer, elk, coyotes, cougars, bears, along with turkeys and a
wide assortment of other game birds. Our horses are also accustomed to cattle
and dogs.
Spirit Ranch
horses have been raised with a positive connection to humans and are open for a
personal, bonding relationship. They are handled with respect for their spirit
and uniqueness as individuals.
We invite you
to visit any time. There is lots of free camping, fishing, and access to
beautiful mountain trails. Appointments will ensure that we’re here to greet
you!
